What is a VPN Kill Switch?
A VPN kill switch is a feature that automatically stops your internet connection if your VPN connection is lost. This ensures that your internet activity is not exposed if your VPN connection fails. VPN kill switches come in two types: system-level kill switches and application-level kill switches.
System-Level Kill Switch
A system-level kill switch is a feature that stops all internet traffic when your VPN connection is lost. This means that all internet activity on your device will be blocked until your VPN connection is restored. System-level kill switches are more secure than application-level kill switches, but they can be more inconvenient to use.
Application-Level Kill Switch
An application-level kill switch is a feature that stops only certain applications from accessing the internet when your VPN connection is lost. This means that you can choose which applications are blocked when your VPN connection fails. Application-level kill switches are less secure than system-level kill switches, but they are more convenient to use.
How Does a VPN Kill Switch Work?
A VPN kill switch works by monitoring your VPN connection. When your VPN connection is lost, the kill switch immediately blocks all internet traffic on your device. The kill switch continues to block internet traffic until your VPN connection is restored.
How to Use a VPN Kill Switch?
Using a VPN kill switch depends on the VPN provider you are using. Most VPN providers offer a built-in kill switch that can be turned on or off in the settings. Here are the general steps to enable a VPN kill switch:
